Lewis & Clarke College Graduate School of Education in Portland, Oregon offers 99 CEU credits for professionals completing the Advanced Coaching Course with a passing grade, or 5 hours non-degree applicable transcripted masters level credit for those completing the Advanced Coaching Course. This is applicable for licensed educators and for those in the counseling fields requiring CEU's. Advanced Coaching Course Curriculum

This course is designed as a comprehensive coach training experience, organized around each group of students progressing together as a learning cohort. The goal of the Advanced Coaching Course is to equip professionals with a powerful coaching skill-set based on the book, Parent as Coach and the Seven Ways to Coach, together with the Core Competencies from the International Coach Federation, Advanced Coaching Tools based in Ontological Philosophies, and Advanced and uncommon business tools for bringing coaching to a new market. The Family Coach Training Coaching Approach can be utilized in a variety of settings, including coaching individuals and groups, leading workshops, teaching classes, and speaking at schools and community centers. And this is just the beginning-endless educational and workplace applications exist.

Each participant is required to participate fully and powerfully in growing his or her own coaching capabilities, supporting the other students, and staking a claim in the world for the advocacy of young people, parents, and families.

The four basic learning pillars of the course are:

  • Foundation: Learning foundational coaching principles and philosophy
  • Basic Coaching Skills: A detailed exploration/application into the International Coach Federation Core Competencies
  • Advanced and Specific Tool Kit: Ontological coaching models for coaching teens, young adults parents, families
  • Business/Application: Integrating coaching into your marketplace, community, and world

Course Outline

The Advanced Coaching Course encompasses two, three-day Workshops as "bookends" to the entire learning experience plus multiple learning tracks that run concurrently during the ten or eleven months between the workshops. These are:

  • Opening Workshop "Go Live" (3 Days) 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM Each day. Plus one day will be a longer evening session.
  • GROUP LEARNING: Weekly Teleclasses/The Four Pillars of Learning 1 - 1.5 hours in length.
  • FIELD LEARNING: Three case studies, weekly field assignments
  • INDEPENDENT LEARNING: 7 Book Reports
  • DIAD LEARNING: Weekly Peer Support
  • MENTOR COACHING WITH ICF PCC CERTIFIED COACH AND INSTRUCTOR: 4 Sessions
  • Closing Workshop "Go Forth!" (3 Days)
  • By focusing on our unique approach and methodology, you will feel competent using coaching skills to interact with teens, young adults, parents and families. You will be given a sample workbook and templates to use with your clients and become equipped to design your own materials.
  • You will apply the skill-set of coaching to your professional and personal life in all applicable areas.
  • You will experience ongoing personal development through the discovery of your hidden potential and gifts, and the expansion of coaching skills and techniques.
  • You will create an ongoing Individual Success Plan to take your voice and work to your community/world.
  • You will learn to integrate coaching teens, young adults, parents and/or families into your chosen professional applications. Able to transpose coaching to children and parents of children.
  • You will be able to use the designation "Certified Family Coach" in your marketing materials.

    Affiliations

    Our ten-month Advanced Coaching Course (ACC) is affiliated with Lewis and Clarke College Graduate Department of Education. This course offers 5 non degree applicable Masters Level CEU credits or 99 Training Hours. Please ask for full Lewis and Clark application and we will guide you through the process.

    Successful Completion of Course Includes

    • Certified Family Coach designation: Certificate of Completion will be issued upon successful completion of all assignments and showing proof of being a competent and trained coach in your chosen application. Competency will be evaluated and assessed by instructors and your classmates, your clients and yourself. Certificate will also include the ASCTH ICF designation.
    • Unrestricted use of Parent as Coach book, workbooks, and practices in your coaching business, workshops, in support groups and in any and all related applications. Use of term "Trained in the Parent as Coach Approach" or "Featuring Parent as Coach" in all print and electronic materials as well as use of Certified Family Coach.
    • Ongoing access to additional discounted Alumni training, coaching with ACC Coaches and future materials. Welcome to our growing and powerful community of Certified Family Coaches!

    Commitment

    • Read seven assigned professional and personal development books; write two-page reviews on each.
    • Complete three case studies during the course (one parent, one teen, and/or group coaching application). Write a two-page review of the case studies and give a live presentation to classmates at final workshop. Must also submit written testimonies from case studies. Must use parts or all of the Seven Ways in each case study.
    • Attend all scheduled weekly teleclasses. There are no make-up classes. Missed classes that are scheduled in advance will be addressed individually for content. Must complete all weekly homework practices and exercises.
    • Attend both three-day workshop sessions at the beginning and end of the 10-month curriculum.
    • Give regular feedback to leader/coaches as to effectiveness of program, personal learning, and integration.
    • Be available to support and interact with classmates on regular basis.
    • Be open to being coached and stretched as you reach new levels of development.

    Does Not Include

    • Licensing Agreement of any kind of "Parent as Coach" name, or any related name or names associated with this program.
    • Use of Family Coach Training, "Parent as Coach," "Diana Sterling," "The Seven Ways to Coach a Teen," or any combination of such names in branding with marketing materials. Parent as Coach is trademarked and is used solely by its owner.
    • A database of clients.
    • A turn-key Franchise, Licensing Agreement, Business Plan or Marketing Plan for your business.
    • Referrals of ready-made clients.
    • Employment or sub-contractor agreement with Diana Sterling, and ACC Trainer or Staff of Academy for Family Coach Training, Parent as Coach, or New Generations International, Inc.
    • Authorization to train other coaches/professionals in this coaching training methodology.

    Requirements for Admission to Program

    • Existing status/role as a professional coach, therapist, counselor, teacher, clergy, etc. You must have an existing professional platform from which to base and integrate your learning.
    • Two letters of recommendations by professional colleagues or personal contacts.
    • Letter of intent/reason for wanting to become a Certified Family Coach in The Advanced Coaching Course.
    • Personal phone or in-person interview with CEO, Admissions Advisor or Lead Trainer. Resume listing educational and professional experiences.
    • $500 USD deposit.
    • Cost of Advanced Coaching Course for 2008 Courses:
    • Balance Paid in Full
      $5997,00 USD - $500 deposit; balance paid in full prior to course start date.
